Baroque, Bike and Sea is an 8-day self-guided bike tour of southern Sicily, from Ragusa Ibla to Syracuse, rated easy to moderate. Along the way you ride through the UNESCO-listed Baroque towns of Modica, Scicli and Noto and along the south-east coast, from Marina di Ragusa to Marzamemi, the Vendicari Nature Reserve and Ortigia. Six riding days of 37–52 km, with your luggage moved ahead to each hotel.

- Day 1
Ragusa Ibla
Arrive independently in Ragusa Ibla, the oldest part of Ragusa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. Take the evening to wander its Baroque churches, palaces and stepped lanes – one of the most charming old towns in Sicily. Overnight in Ragusa Ibla.

Ragusa Ibla – Marina di Ragusa

In the morning you receive your bike and route briefing. Heading for the coast, the first stop is Donnafugata Castle, a grand Neo-Gothic residence on a low hill. You then roll down to the sea past the beaches of Punta Secca and Marina di Ragusa. Overnight in Marina di Ragusa.

Marina di Ragusa – Modica

Follow the coast to Donnalucata, with its small harbour and seafront promenade, then turn inland to Scicli, home to fine Baroque buildings such as Palazzo Beneventano and the Church of San Bartolomeo. The day ends in Modica, another Baroque gem famous for its chocolate. Overnight in Modica.

Modica – Ispica

In Ispica, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and its Loggiato del Sinatra are the highlights. Overnight in Ispica.

Ispica – Marzamemi

Back to the coast, past the beaches of Santa Maria del Focallo and the Pantano Longarini and Pantano Baronello wetlands, where migratory birds are often seen. After skirting the islet of Capo Passero, you reach Marzamemi, a picturesque old fishing village. Overnight in Marzamemi.

Marzamemi – Noto

The highlight today is the Vendicari Nature Reserve, with its beaches and the old tonnara where tuna was once processed. An easy ride takes you on to Lido di Noto, perfect for a break on the sand, before the final stretch to Noto, the 'Capital of Baroque'. Overnight in Noto.

Noto – Siracusa

The last ride takes you from Noto to Syracuse, one of the most elegant cities of the Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. Explore the modern town and, above all, Ortigia, the island that forms its historic heart. Overnight in Syracuse.

How long is the tour and how much does it cost?
8 days and 7 nights, from € 1,140 per person in a double room (Economy category, low season). Deluxe hotels start at € 1,400.
Where does the tour start and end, and how do I get there?
It starts in Ragusa Ibla and ends in Syracuse. Comiso airport is about 15 km from Ragusa; from Catania airport, buses reach Ragusa in about 1 hour 45 minutes, and Catania is also the nearest airport to Syracuse. Private transfers are available on request.
How difficult is it?
Easy to moderate: 268 km over six stages of 37–52 km. The hilliest day is Marina di Ragusa – Modica (+575 m); the coastal stages are mostly gentle.
When is the best time to go?
Spring and autumn are ideal for riding and still great for the beach. Prices vary by low, mid and high season, and an August supplement applies from 1 to 24 August (€ 255 in category A, € 500 in category B).
Which bikes are available? Can I ride an e-bike?
Yes. A touring bike is included; you can upgrade to an e-bike for € 160 or a road bike for € 75.
